Truecaller Sets Ambitious Goal: 500 Million Users in India by 2026

Truecaller, the popular caller identification app from Sweden, is eyeing further growth in the Indian market. With 246 million active monthly users already in India, the company aims to reach 500 million users in the country by 2026. This ambition comes as Truecaller opens its largest workspace outside of Sweden, a 30,443 square feet office in Bengaluru that can host up to 250 employees.

The company’s CEO, Alan Mamedi, is bullish on India, the company’s biggest market globally, which already contributes 71% of its global business. Mamedi said, “Today, we have around 55% of connected smartphones in India using our service every day. If the same pace is maintained, we will have around 700 million to 800 million connected smartphones by 2026. So in three years, if we continue to grow and evolve as we already are, we should be at around 400 million to 500 million users.”

Truecaller’s success in India can be attributed to its focus on adding new features for spam protection. With the Indian government’s push for a cleaner digital space, Truecaller is committed to being a trusted technology partner to the country. The company’s Bengaluru office already hosts 200 employees across various verticals, including technology, product, marketing, and Truecaller for Business.

The inauguration of Truecaller’s office in Bengaluru was attended by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship & Electronics, Information, and Technology. Chandrasekhar said, “This office signifies a huge part of the commitment that we have towards India. It reaffirms the fact that we believe we can ship a product worldwide from here and that we can make communication in the digital space safer for citizens of India as well as companies.”

Truecaller has two other offices in India, located in Mumbai and Gurgaon at co-working spaces. The opening of a dedicated office in Bengaluru is a significant step for the company and a testament to its commitment to the Indian market. With India’s smartphone user base projected to continue growing, Truecaller’s goal of reaching 500 million users in India by 2026 is ambitious but achievable.
